Q.
How does WiMax compare to other technologies?
A.

Here at imagine, we are committed to providing our customers with cutting edge technology as well as quality of service. WiMax is a 4G network which is the latest wireless technology available and is far superior when compared to 3G, cable, WLR/DSL and other wireless technologies.

Why? Because WiMax is not based on Line of Sight so its wireless range is much further, it is less expensive than other phone and broadband services, its mobile and has a quick and easy set up.

Q.
I’m moving house, can I keep my WiMax service when I move?
A.

If you have an indoor WiMax 4G Hub and your new house is within coverage, you can move your 4G Hub to your new house yourself. You will simply need to contact Customer Service on 1890 929 008  so that we  can update your address.

If you have an outdoor 4G Hub you will need to call Customer Service and we will organise an engineer team to move your WiMax equipment. You will have to pay €101.65 towards the cost of the engineer visit.

If your new house is not in coverage for WiMax we will try to provide you with an alternative service. However if this is not possible, and you are within your 12 month contract period, you will be charged a €101.65 cancellation fee.

Q.
Where should I position my WiMax 4G Hub?
A.

The position of our 4G Hub is imperative when it comes to the quality of your WiMax service. To get a better signal, try plugging your WiMax 4G Hub into a different area of your home. Try some of the areas below.

  • Higher in the home (e.g. upstairs).
  • Closer to a window.
  • To the side of your home that is closest to the local WiMax Tower.

This all can have a positive effect on the signal strength and the performance of WiMax broadband into your home.

Q.
I got a message from imagine about my usage, I thought it was unlimited usage?
A.

While we are very fair and lenient in the amount of data you download and upload, we must ensure that all customers benefit from the very best that WiMax has to offer by ensuring fair usage of data across the WiMax Network.

If you have received a message from us about your broadband it probably means your broadband activity is effecting everyone else on the network and you need to scale back on your download and upload activity.

Our Acceptable Usage Policy explains broadband usage in more detail.

Q.
How can I find out if I can get WiMax?
A.

You can check if you are in coverage for WiMax on our website imagine.ie, just enter your details into the Check Availability box on the site.

Q.
How do I get the most from my WiMax service?
A.

The single most important factor that will ensure that you have the best service that you possibly can is having the maximum signal strength possible within your home.

To get a better signal on your 4G Hub change the position of your WiMax 4G Hub. Position the WiMax 4G Hub;

  • Higher in the home (e.g. upstairs).
  • Closer to a window.
  • To the side of your home that is closest to the local WiMax Tower.

This all can have a positive effect on the signal strength and the performance of WiMax broadband into your home.

The lights on the front of the WiMax 4G Hub are an indication of signal strength and the more lights that are on means the stronger the signal strength. Ideally all four signal lights should be lit to get the best service from imagine WiMax.

Each home is different and where the WiMax 4G Hub is best positioned will vary for everyone. But try all the areas suggested above.

Don’t forget, all Imagine WiMax 4G Hubs have integrated WiFi which means that you can connect your computer or other WiFi enabled device to your 4G Hub via a wireless signal which is a great way to avoid trailing cables if your computer is not close to your Hub.

However, the quality and range of a wireless signal can weaken in some circumstances and may make your broadband connection seem inconsistent, although the actual speed between your 4G Hub and the network may be strong.

If you have any questions at all during your WiMax Home Hub Setup, call our specialised Install Team on 1890 929 008 who will help you find a place in your house to set up your Home Hub. We are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm and 10am until 4pm on weekends.

Q.
How do I connect my iPhone to WiMax?
A.

Your iPhone will pick up any wireless network in range. Click on the Safari connection on your iPhone,  it will search for WiFi connections in range.

Once it identifies the WiMax WiFi Network (or whatever you have called the wireless connection), click on it to connect and enter your WiFi key,  just as you would when using your computer.

You are now connected to the WiMax network from your iPhone.

Q.
Is WiMax available all over Ireland?
A.

WiMax is a National Network and will be available all over Ireland by 2012. At the moment we are still rolling out WiMax across the country and have a very fast paced plan.

We are upgrading about 20 new areas every month to WiMax so  more and more people across the country are saving around €400 a year.

WiMax is a real alternative to any other Nationwide Network and will provide Irish consumers with a low cost, high quality phone and broadband service.

Q.
What are the benefits of WiMax broadband?
A.

The first major benefit of WiMax Broadband is that there is no line rental fee, saving you €25 every month.
WiMax is 4G which basically means its more reliable than 3G Mobile broadband, cable, DSL and other wireless broadband connections.

Also WiMax has a very low contention ratio of 4:1, unlike most traditional broadband providers who would be contended at 48:1.

The great thing about WiMax broadband is that as the technology continues to improve, so does the broadband speeds and performance.  Also as its a wireless technology, we can roll out the network efficiently  without having to dig up roads and incur huge costs.
